The University of Brighton is one of the UK’s leading professional and vocational universities and features campuses in Brighton, Hastings and Eastbourne. They are committed to enriching the Hastings area by providing outstanding educational opportunities and facilities in the heart of the town.

They strive to make university education available to people from all backgrounds and experiences. The courses and facilities on offer in Hastings are designed to complement those offered at the local colleges, schools and academies, as well as responding to the demands of businesses and the wider community.

With 850 students studying over 35 different courses, our success has achieved national recognition. The recent development of the second building will increase capacity to over 1,000 student places in the coming years.

The University Of Brighton meet the needs of their students and local employers by providing career planning advice for all students, offering practical and relevant work experience opportunities, working with local partners on course development, and sharing their knowledge, specialist facilities and resources with local businesses and industry through the Hastings Exchange programme.

Employability Skills



Employability skills are built in to every course, with some offering year long paid placements. Leading industry figures contribute to course development, teaching and deliver seminars. Recent placement partners include the BBC, Bank of America, The National Trust and the NHS.

Hastings graduates have successful careers with companies including Sky, Xerox, BT, Saga and Hastings Direct. Others choose to better communities, through careers in education, government and health services. Many of our students secure positions with placement companies even before they graduate.

Station Plaza:

Station Plaza is next to the train station in Hastings town centre. The large, light-filled atrium is surrounded by 22,000 square metres of study spaces and social zones.

Station Plaza houses IT suites, public gym, Costa coffee shop, Subway, Coast Restaurant, training kitchen, hair & beauty salons, Subway, diner and learning resource centre.

Courses here include A Levels, Hospitality & Catering, The Arts, Hair & Beauty, Sport, Public Services, Health, Child and Social Care, Business and Foundation Learning.

Ore Valley:

Less than a mile away, Ore Valley takes under a minute by train from Hastings Town Centre and has 7,000 square metres of realistic working environments, workshops and ‘live build’ areas.

Students here have access to the latest equipment and digital technology, Learning Resource Centre, a sports pitch, diner and coffee shop. Ore Valley is where Construction, Engineering and IT courses are based.

16-18 education:

BTECs, NVQs, Diplomas and A Levels will ensure you are ready to earn in your chosen profession.
We have an A level pass rate of 99.4% over the past three years (the highest in Hastings, Bexhill and Rother). Some of the brightest young minds from around the world study on our International Baccalaureate.

DEGREE LEVEL


Our Higher Education Courses are supported by the University of Brighton. We are particularly strong in the graphic arts. In fact, famous artists Sam Taylor-Wood, Stella McCartney and the Chapman Brothers all studied here.


Business Services


Collaboration between business and education is the key to sustained economic growth. SCC works closely with local and international employers to give our students industry experience.

Adult Education


Every year over 5,000 local adults study with us part time. We offer courses from nail art to accounting, guitar, languages, cookery, graphic design and much more.

Bexhill College



Bexhill College is a Sixth Form College with a long history of excellent post-16 education. There are about 94 sixth form colleges in England. All of them focus on providing top quality education to students between 16 and 19 years old.

They are a specialist colleges and are therefore able to provide an outstanding range of courses and services aimed specifically at this age group. Colleges have developed in different ways, but they all share a reputation for good results, strong relationships between staff and students and excellent support services.

If you decide to come to us you will have the opportunity to be able to access high quality post-16 education in your local community.

Bexhill College is a good bridge between school and work or higher education. It is very different from school, students get lots of support and are not left on your own.

They are not timetabled every hour of the college day and will need to develop independent study skills to be able to use their time wisely. The college has a range of specialist resources to help students to do this.

There are about 1,500 full-time students.
Nearly all the college’s day-time students are between 16 and 19 years old.
All course tuition is free as long as you start the course before you are 19.
We have a wide range of courses, including ‘AS’/’A’ Levels, the IB, BTEC National Diplomas, Advanced & Higher Diplomas, GCSEs, BTEC First Diplomas and Foundation level courses.
We are co-located with post-16 students of Glyne Gap School.
