Organised by Visit 1066 Country Marketing in partnership with Active Hastings and Rother, the 1066 Walking Festival offers nine days of guided urban and country walks across 1066 country to suit all abilities.
The Walking Festival is an excellent way to explore the area, bring people together and get some great exercise! Walking is a fantastic way to get and stay healthy and as it’s easy to fit into everyday life; walking to work and to the shops and, people who walk tend to keep it up. Walking is already one of the most popular physical activities. It’s open to everyone and it’s perfect for people who have poor health, or don’t fancy intense exercise.
The festival includes short walks for the whole family, pushchair and wheelchair routes, tougher treks lasting several hours and themed wildlife and history walks. Highlights include Burwash (7 miles), Last day of the Pilgrimage to Hastings Castle (2 miles), Battle-Catsfield via 1066 Country Walk, Around Alexandra Park to Hastings Pier and treasure hunts for families.
Contributors to the festival programme include Battle, Bexhill, Rother and Hastings Ramblers, Hastings Borough Council’s Country Park Rangers, National Trust, Old Hastings Preservation Society, RSPCA Mallydams Woods, Sussex Wildlife Trust and Trust for Conservation Volunteers (TCV).
