The celebrations of the tenth anniversary of the twinning of Hastings, East Sussex with Hastings, Sierra Leone continue next week with a concert by Sussex Brass. Following on from celebrations in Hastings Sierra Leone in February when a team of teachers and health workers visited our twin town, Sussex Brass will perform at St Matthew’s Church, St Matthews Road, St. Leonards on Friday 26th May starting at 7.15pm.
Richard Homewood, Chair of the Friendship Link said, “This year has been extremely busy so far with the team visiting Sierra Leone to promote education skills and good practice whilst others worked with the Hastings Health Centre team to help improve facilities for health care. The local Community and the Government in Sierra Leone took part in the tenth anniversary celebrations there and we were fortunate to have the Deputy Mayor accompany our team and meet with Ministers and local government officials in Sierra Leone. We are pleased to say the Mayor will be supporting this local event.”
He went on to say, “We have achieved a tremendous amount over the past ten years helping extend the Health Centre, helping them through the Ebola crisis and continuing to expand the number of twinned schools. But there is still a lot to do and we need the continuing support of the community here in the Hastings, UK to enable our work to continue. We would be delighted to see everyone there at 7.15pm on Friday 26th, Sussex Brass always put on an amazing performance and we know from past experience that it will be a truly enjoyable event.”
All funds raised will go directly to the work in Education that we are supporting in Sierra Leone. Tickets are £10 (£5 for students) and can be obtained in advance from our secretary by calling 01424 436603 or purchased on the door. Refreshments will be provided during the interval.
