A new film starring rock legends Status Quo, which was filmed at Hastings Blue Reef Aquarium is due to have its world premier next month.
Front men Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt visited the aquarium last year to film underwater shots for the new film called ‘Bula Quo’. The comedy film, which also stars former EastEnders actor Craig Fairbrass, features 12 of the bands most popular songs and was also partly filmed in Fiji.
This week the band released their 100th single ‘Bula Bula Quo’ as well as an album to accompany the forthcoming film.
Blue Reef’s Chris Ireland said: “It was amazing to have two music legends on site here at the aquarium and it certainly caused quite a stir among staff and visitors.
“They were on site to film some close-up underwater shots of the band for the new film and were working with local diver and underwater cameraman Patrick Shier, who is a regular visitor to the aquarium.
“We haven’t had a chance to see the finished film yet but it will be great to actually see what makes it in to the final cut and to see if we can spot the shots taken here in the actual film,” he added.
The film has been directed by award-winning Stuart St. Paul, who has worked on projects ranging from Duran Duran’s seminal ‘Wild Boys’ video, to massive franchises like ‘Aliens’, ‘Batman’ and three ‘Bond’ movies. He first met the band when asked by ITV to look after their visit on Coronation Street and wrote the film script specifically with the band in mind.
Status Quo are one of the longest lived rock bands in the world having been performing together since 1967 and famous for a string of hits including Rockin’ All Over the World’, ‘Whatever You Want’ and ‘In the Army Now’. They have recorded more than 60 chart hits in the UK, with 22 reaching the Top 10.
Rossi and Parfitt were awarded the OBE in the New Year Honours 2010 for their services to music. Their long-standing work for charities includes The Prince’s Trust, British Heart Foundation and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.
The film, also stars actress Laura Aikman, who previously starred in Keith Lemon: The Movie.
