Switched On Hastings. Collectively get your gas and electric for less.

  • You can sign up now to take part in the scheme with no obligation. Make sure you have details of your current gas and electricity consumption to hand – visit www.uswitch.com for help with understanding how your bill is worked out
  • The more people who sign up, the greater our purchasing power and you can sign up if you live in Hastings, St Leonards and the surrounding area!
  • In November, various energy suppliers will compete to make the lowest offer in an auction. They determine their offer based on the number of people taking part – so make sure you get all your friends and family to sign up
  • The supplier with the lowest tariffs ‘wins’ the auction. Two weeks after the auction, you will get a personal offer by email from that supplier and will have a few weeks to decide whether or not to accept it
  • Better still, the process of switching from your current supplier/s will be seamless and simple
  • The auction takes place on 19 November.

As you may have noticed, Autumn pretty much arrived this week and has swiftly pushed Summer out of the picture which means it will soon be time to put on the central heating and generally use more energy as the winter approaches.  If the recent news that energy suppliers are starting to raise prices in time for the winter fills you with dread then Hastings Borough Council may have a solution for you.

switched on hastings

Switched On Hastings might save you money. sign up and join the collective.

Hastings Borough Council are trying to solve the issue of rising energy bills by offering those that sign to their energy switching scheme the chance to take advantage of collective purchasing power by offering residents from Hastings and the surrounding areas the chance to switch energy suppliers and save money, the hope is that by being with Switched On Hastings it will save more than switching alone.

The offer is for a limited time only and signing up can be done until the 15th October 2013. Once its past the cut off date the council will offer energy companies the chance to bid for the chance to supply everyone within the collective with the lowest priced energy on offer.

The council have stressed to Business In Hastings that there still may not be savings for some energy users but are expecting most will benefit from tariffs they are currently on as that would have been purchased on an individual basis.  So far over 7,500 residents have signed up for the scheme and this is set to continue rising up to the cut off date.

Once the winning bid has been accepted by the council, those that have signed up will be informed directly by the winning energy supplier with an offer for the new cost of gas and electricity based on your current usage (You will need a bill to hand when you sign up). If  for any reason you do not wish to take up the offer you don’t have to either. If it provides better value and you do decide to switch then it should be as seamless and easy as it is with money saving/switching websites.

There are a number of sessions which are there to help residents sign up for the scheme as well. The dates and further detail of the scheme can be found here.

If you can’t make these sessions and you want to know more, you can telephone the Switched On Hastings  team on 01424 451055 anytime,  or email switchonhastings@hastings.gov.uk or visit the Commmunity Contact Centre between 4.30pm and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
