Students from Sussex Coast College Hastings (SCCH) are celebrating after achieving outstanding A Level results, performing significantly above the national average for A Level students for the 5th year running.

Sussex Coast College A Level Results

Sussex Coast College has another great year of A Level results.

SCCH students secured an exceptional pass rate of 100% on the range of A Level subjects offered by the college, with just under half of students gaining A* to B/high grade at A2 level. Similarly, first year AS students produced outstanding results, with a success rate of 82.35%, compared to the national average of 75.05% (11/12).

Art & design, science, mathematics, humanities and social science courses all significantly exceeded the high national average success rates, with students securing places at top universities across the UK.

Alongside A Levels, the College offers courses in Hospitality & Catering, The Arts, Hair & Beauty, Sport, Public Services, Health, Child and Social Care, Business and Foundation Learning.

Every year, SCCH have over 5,000 local adults study with them part-time, offering courses from nail art to accounting, guitar, languages, cookery, graphic design and much more.

The College believes collaboration between business and education is the key to sustained economic growth. SCCH works closely with local and international employers to give students industry experience. This includes a focus on work placements, apprenticeships and employee training.

SCCH student Debbie Attewell, 46, worked part-time as a welder when she returned to college in 2008 to gain qualifications in welding and machine shop skills. This experience inspired her to progress to the BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Engineering course in 2009, going on to achieve the National Diploma. Having ruled out university as her teenage children were still living at home, Debbie was determined to continue her studies at Sussex Coast College Hastings and took the bold step of giving up work to embark on the full-time HND in Mechanical Engineering.

Debbie said, ‘I have discovered that I have a true passion for engineering and have finally found the confidence to be myself, instead of trying to be what others expect. I am very happy to be unconventional!’
