Marshall-Tufflex MD Jim Fletcher has been known to take his work home but rarely does his professional diligence result in a reduction of almost 10% off his own domestic electricity bills.

Jim Fletcher, MD of Marshall Tufflex has been testing out the Voltis Home which reduces energy consumption and saves money.

But that’s just what happened when Jim, Managing Director of the Hastings-based manufacturer, took one of his company’s Voltis Home voltage optimiser units home to test its efficiency. The results proved that Voltis Home delivers on its claims, with an average power saving of 9.42% achieved.

Jim is delighted with the outcome: “Obviously, from a professional point of view, it’s great to have one of our own products working so efficiently in my home. From a personal stance the savings are much appreciated; for once my wife is very happy that I bought work home with me!”

Voltis Home reduces the incoming supply voltage (UK average 242Volts) to a lower level (i.e 220Volts) so householders benefit from lower electricity bills and appliances last longer because they are not over supplied with electricity. The unit was installed in Jim’s home without fuss and requires no maintenance. Savings were made without lifestyle changes to the Fletcher family’s daily routine.

Marshall-Tufflex has also installed its commercial voltage optimisation system Voltis into production facilities in Hastings and is currently monitoring performance.

As you may have noticed, Autumn pretty much arrived this week and has swiftly pushed Summer out of the picture which means it will soon be time to put on the central heating and generally use more energy as the winter approaches.  If the recent news that energy suppliers are starting to raise prices in time for the winter fills you with dread then Hastings Borough Council may have a solution for you.

Switched On Hastings might save you money. sign up and join the collective.

Hastings Borough Council are trying to solve the issue of rising energy bills by offering those that sign to their energy switching scheme the chance to take advantage of collective purchasing power by offering residents from Hastings and the surrounding areas the chance to switch energy suppliers and save money, the hope is that by being with Switched On Hastings it will save more than switching alone.

The offer is for a limited time only and signing up can be done until the 15th October 2013. Once its past the cut off date the council will offer energy companies the chance to bid for the chance to supply everyone within the collective with the lowest priced energy on offer.

The council have stressed to Business In Hastings that there still may not be savings for some energy users but are expecting most will benefit from tariffs they are currently on as that would have been purchased on an individual basis.  So far over 7,500 residents have signed up for the scheme and this is set to continue rising up to the cut off date.

Once the winning bid has been accepted by the council, those that have signed up will be informed directly by the winning energy supplier with an offer for the new cost of gas and electricity based on your current usage (You will need a bill to hand when you sign up). If  for any reason you do not wish to take up the offer you don’t have to either. If it provides better value and you do decide to switch then it should be as seamless and easy as it is with money saving/switching websites.

There are a number of sessions which are there to help residents sign up for the scheme as well. The dates and further detail of the scheme can be found here.

If you can’t make these sessions and you want to know more, you can telephone the Switched On Hastings  team on 01424 451055 anytime,  or email switchonhastings@hastings.gov.uk or visit the Commmunity Contact Centre between 4.30pm and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
