David Cameron has announced that Britain will vote on Thursday 23 June on whether to remain in the EU.

The prime minister said in his statement in Downing Street that he recommends remaining in a reformed EU. Theresa May, the Home Secretary, backed him in this but other ministers are likely to campaign to leave.

The London Mayor, Boris Johnson, has not yet said where he stands on the situation but leave campaigners are hoping he will join them.

Justice Secretary Michael Gove has opted to sign up to the leave campaign.

On the 27th November St Michael’s Hospice is hoping to win a life-changing £50,000 grant to help individuals from Hastings and Rother who live with a life-limiting illness. But, we need YOUR help to win!

Help local charity St. Michaels Hospice by voting on the 27th November.

The Lottery fund and ITV Meridian Tonight are teaming up once again to give away a staggering £200,000 to four charities from the South East of England in the 2013 People’s Millions campaign. Two charities will compete each evening on three successive nights with the three winners from each night and over-all runner-up each receiving £50,000.

St. Michaels Hospice will be pitted against a charity from Chatham as they attempt to win the prize money to help transform their Day Therapy service.

Why do they need the money?

St. Michaels Hospice’s Day Therapy Centre currently helps around 150 people living each day with a life-limiting illness every year by providing the emotional, physical and mental support they need. However there are many more within Hastings and Rother who want and need this service.

If St. Michaels Hospice is lucky enough to win the People’s Millions funding, the money would go toward transforming the Day Therapy to create a welcoming and creative space that people could visit to help them share their experiences, worries and fears. Alongside this, the funding would allow us to offer 400 extra places each year as well as a range of brand new activities including:

Art Therapy Studio and Photographic Suite

The Art Therapy Studio and Photography Suite will provide a space where patients and their families can come together to learn new skills and take part in creative activities that enable special moments to be created and lasting pieces of artwork to be cherished for many years to come.

They will provide an avenue for patients to express their thoughts and emotions through art and photography and in turn will create pieces of work that can be kept, displayed throughout the Hospice or used to raise funds for future projects.

The Peoples Millions funding will enable us to buy all of the equipment needed, including new digital cameras, computers, printers and other materials required to provide the service.
